Surprise Party Planning - How To Plan An Unforgettable Party For Your Partner

There is nothing better than planning a surprise party! Especially when it’s for the one that you love the most. If you’re new to party planning, you’re not alone. The truth is that most people never even have a party planned for themselves and instead rely on last-minute plans in the hopes that loved ones will tag along. Forget the last-minute panic, and prepare to plan the best party ever for your loved one (that they’ll never see coming).

Stick with a theme

Listen, themes are not for everyone, but they are a great way to apply some structure to your party planning. For example, if your partner is obsessed with the TV show Game of Thrones, why not dedicate the party to this theme? Or, if your partner will simply appreciate the act of bringing all their favorite people together, perhaps a theme isn’t needed. Make sure that you are not planning anything that will overwhelm your partner, as not everyone takes surprises well.

Set yourself a budget

As much as everyone would love an unlimited party budget, it is not feasible for the majority of us. So, setting a budget will prevent any overspending and will also encourage you to get better value for your money. Once you have an overall budget you are happy to part ways with, start grouping it into individual costs. For example, if you are booking a venue, this may take the majority of the budget away. Or, if you are keeping things at home, will you be hiring a caterer? How much will this come to? Set a budget, and leave more money for gifts!

Who are their people?

The dreaded guest list. Most people will agree that this is the most important part of party planning, more importantly when this party is not dedicated to you specifically. Figuring out who they would most enjoy seeing at a party can be hard and may require some digging. Who do they see the most? Who are they still connected with from their school days? Be sure to gather a list of potential people they would be happy to see there. Ask for help from their closest friends who see them outside of your relationship. They will offer the inside scoop as to who they best get along with.

What would be the ideal setting?

The setting can set the tone for the whole event. Do you choose to keep things remote at home, or perhaps book out a huge venue filled with activities and space for dancing? Whatever you choose, make sure that it is something that they would also choose for themselves. If there is anything specific you would like to have at the event, such as a bar to serve ready to drink cocktails, make sure the room allows for these additions to be made to avoid last-minute panic.

Decoration can wow the crowds

Perhaps you consider yourself a creative person, or perhaps you don’t. Regardless of what you enjoy, decorations can truly elevate a space and add the special touch that parties need. Make sure that the decor suits the theme and the occasion. Balloons work for just about all celebrations and can look beautiful when decorated into a balloon wall. Tablecloths and centerpieces are also great ways to make the party theme clear and set the vibe. For example for an intimate party style, consider large candle holders and petals for table decorations.

Order food/drinks in advance

One of the biggest things that can kill the party at a party is a lack of food and beverage. Food keeps hungry guests happy and also helps guests who don’t know each other to mingle. However, depending on the scale of your party, you need to make sure you have enough time to order your food in advance. Party caterers, especially the good ones, are usually booked months in advance. Do your research to find the right fit for you ahead of time. Get creative with your food choices and have all of your partner’s favorite foods to enjoy. Do they have a favorite restaurant? See if this location would consider catering the party as a one-off.

Have music/ entertainment secured

Sometimes all you need is a great pair of speakers and good vibes to keep a party blaring. On the other hand, you might want to step outside of the box and hire entertainers to keep guests intrigued. From hypnotists to dancers, make sure that you have thought out the whole evening and planned the timeline correctly for guests arriving and when entertainment is set to start.

Bottom line

Overall, there is no such thing as the perfect party, but there is such a thing as memorable ones. Planning a party for your partner should be exciting and also reveal how much you know about your loved one. Leave no stone unturned, and do your best to get all of your favorite people in one location for one event!
