How to Get a Great Craft Beer Pump
If you’re a bar owner or an entrepreneur, you are always looking for ways to increase sales of your pub. And, beer lovers love to experiment. Beer pumps in the bar provide a seamless beer supply to your customers. The blog post focuses on what makes an incredible craft beer pump.  Let’s get started.

What different types of pumps do Craft Brewers Use?

So, we must cover the basic beer pumps that craft brewers use.

Centrifugal Pumps

In most of the bars, you must’ve noticed sanitary centrifugal pumps in craft breweries. Beer contains no impurities; it is a clean water product. However, it contains a high percentage of protein and sugars, and its low viscosity makes it an ideal tool for centrifugal pumps. Sanitary centrifugal pumps are budget-friendly and sturdy, handling beer viscosity up to 1000 cps. They are available in a different set of configurations.

Flexible Impeller Pumps

Craft beer has become more eclectic, so there is a requirement for pumps to handle higher viscosities. To handle things, such as fruit puree, you need flexible impeller pumps. These pumps contain an eccentric pump housing and rubber rotor to form a vacuum in the suction side as the turns, extracting product into the impeller vanes. It is because the house is eccentric, the blades rotate, escalating pressure, and discharging beer.

Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pumps

AODD pumps have a crucial role to play in the daily operations of the brewery house. You must have witnessed various feeding counter pressure fillers. AODD evades the line between sanitary centrifugal and positive displacement pumps. However, they discharge a constant volume irrespective of discharge pressure, you can use it like a centrifugal pump, making them a great choice for pumping into a charged fill bowl. AODD pumps are easily controlled using a regulator and can incorporate higher product viscosities. Hence, they are operated by air, so there is no mechanical seal that can also help you to lower oxygen pickup.

Rotary Lobe Pumps

Less likely, we observed the need for External Circumferential Piston Pumps, also known as rotary lobe or plain ole’ sanitary PD pumps. These pumps, used in the food and dairy industries, are incredible for metering or product handling applications. However, the cost per volume traveled is greater than AODD, centrifugal, or flexible impeller pumps. ECP or sanitary rotary lobes pumps can precisely and continuously provide consistent volumes of beer per revolution.

Progressive Cavity Pumps

Another type of pump we observe in craft breweries is progressive cavity pumps, like Nietzsche’s NEMO BO pump. It can be simply fitted using a rectangular flange and auger, making it an ideal choice for managing spent grain pump out. Spent grains can either be discharged or sold as animal feed. Progressive cavity pumps are positive displacement pumps as they can pump out long distances and can manage the higher differential pressure, which centrifugal pumps won’t.

Twin Screw Pumps

The last type of pump is twin screw pumps. Twin Screw Pumps are amazing for whole hop handling and applications where you need both CP and process fluids. Twin screw pumps are positive displacement pumps because they have higher shear than other types of pumps. Craft brewers rely on a diverse range of pumps sourced from trusted wine suppliers to optimize their brewing processes and achieve consistent quality in their brews. Whether it’s transferring wort, dosing additives, or recirculating mash, the right pump plays a pivotal role in ensuring efficiency, reliability, and product integrity. By partnering with reputable wine suppliers, craft brewers can access a wide selection of pumps tailored to their specific brewing needs, empowering them to innovate and elevate their craft. Choose the type of pump for your brewery based on your requirements. If you want wine in stock, contact a reputed wine supplier.
